The use of presenter-controlled graphics for television is rapidly increasing. Presenters can engage with the data – and their audiences, in new and persuasive ways. There are multiple multi-touch devices and suppliers; the possibilities increase all the time. Broadcasters can face extensive integration tasks and the need to reimplement when devices are changed.
Molden GmbH has been working with multitouch devices for a considerable time, and we have now developed a number of plug-ins designed to help broadcasters quickly integrate the device of their choice, design their own gestural interfaces and connect to Vizrt scenes.
MTouchGateway
is a realtime multitouch protocol converter. Date is received from the multi touch device, using either Evoluce or TUIO protocol. Data is bi-directionally exchanged with Viz Engine using viz3 Multitouch Protocol. Because the plug-in generalises the interface the Vizrt scene can be device agnostic.
The plug-ins:
The Multitouch group of plugins expands the functionality of Viz Artist. The plugins help to handle mouse and multitouch events in Viz Artist more effectively and without extensive scripting. The plugins unify handling multi-touch and mouse events. This enables the designer to prepare and test scenes without having the multi-touch device available.
- MT6DOF simplifies implementing Viz Artist object dragging in 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF) space.
- MT Gesture detects simple single touch gestures (mouse or multi-touch device). Any number of gestures can be defined by the user. When detected, a Viz Script button is fired.
- MT PZR simplifies implementing Viz Artist object dragging in 2D space. The object can be dragged and scaled within defined bounds, and then a Viz Script button is fired.
- MTUI Element provides a number of common user interface elements: push button, check box, group of radio buttons, menu and a special “rub” button (press and move). After the button press (or value change) the script button is fired.
- MTButton is provided for backwards compatibility
